A New Adventure Begins

In October 2023 a new family had the opportunity to continue the amazing quality and lineage Andrea and his family had begun 15 plus years ago. With the original recipes now handed over and training now done, we have set the bar high with the continued quality and excellence you have come to love from Sovrano Limoncello.

The Team
The History of Sovrano Limoncello

Andrea and Marzia were born in Northern Italy with Andrea’s family originating from Sicily and Marzia’s family originating from Mantova, Lombardy. Emigrating together in 2007, we set up a family home in magical Kerikeri and have raised three children. The second generation of Sovrano,

Marzia’s family has been in the winemaking business for generations and Andrea’s family has had a tradition of making liqueurs. With our combined family experience and having tasted many hundreds of different Limoncello in our lifetime, we know the importance of using fresh and perfect ingredients.

 

The secret of Limoncello must be in the persistent and pleasant not pungent aftertaste.

After we had found the best lemons in the Bay of Islands and the purest distilled alcohol produced in New Zealand, we began to develop the best and purest Sovrano Limoncello in early 2009. 

Fresh Kerikeri lemons are harvested at the right time of year to maximize their flavor. The zest, which is rich in lemon oils, is removed by hand and then placed in alcohol to release and preserve its flavor and scent. Sugar is added to balance acidity and then we let time, taste, and experience decide when to bottle.

 

From the very beginning, it has been a success throughout New Zealand and continues to grow every day.

 

After conquering the New Zealand market, Andrea and Marzia took Sovrano Limoncello to the world stage. By competing and winning awards at the highest international level we have raised the quality and recognition of New Zealand-made Sovrano Limoncello to the greatest level.

 In mid-2021 we bought a vineyard in Kerikeri, former AKEAKE and now Sovrano Estate to carry on Marzia family tradition in addition to the best Liqueur our goal is to produce the finest wines and Liqueurs in New Zealand.

In November 2022 we will be pleased to host you in our Italian restaurant onsite
